Daily Discoveries

I turn 50 next year. Holy s**t. 💩 It shouldn’t surprise me and I obviously hoped to grow old but still: holy s**t.

Do you notice as you get older that things lose their wonder? We get caught up in the daily drudgery of life and it takes effort to see the joy in the every day.

When I was a child, each time I experienced something different, whether positive or negative, I recall consciously thinking to myself “well that was new”.

It got lost somewhere

This got me thinking – as I near 50 there are some things I really want to experience and places I want to visit. Lets call it the bucket list. But I can’t do bucket list activities every day, so why not make some daily discoveries. Be it a new poem, a piece of art or something new I learnt at work – even if it appears mundane, it is still new!

My immersion heater stopped working recently. Cold showers have been an almost daily occurrence (I tell myself they’re good for me!) but I have also learnt something new about how my home works, and that is a positive thing – a daily discovery! The cost to replace it is less positive, but needs must.

Today at work, I started to learn a new topic – data protection and the right to be forgotten. I’ll be doing more research into the rules tomorrow, but the point is, it’s new to me.

So, each day until my 50th I am going to make a daily discovery which I’ll post about on Instagram. Head over to follow and find out more!

If you’d like to discover some new poetry or art you can visit other pages on my website here and here and, you can contact me here.
